Red Scarf at Night

This is my version of a Chevron based scarf. I knit it up using different colors of Cascade 220 yarn, approximately 1 1/2 skeins in all. You can knit it with one main color and one contrasting color, or many contrasting colors! The sky's the limit!

Red Scarf at Night

Materials:

1 1/2 balls of Cascade 220 wool in one or more colors.
size 9 (U.S.) needles
tapestry needle

Stitches:

KFB - knit into the front and the back of the same stitch, increasing by one
K2tog - put the needle into the 2 next stitches, and knit them both at the same time together

Directions:

Cast on 24 stitches.

Knit 4 rows with the main color.

Attach the contrasting color and follow this pattern:

row 1:
K3, (K2tog x 3), (KFB x 3), (K2tog x 3), K3

row 2:
K3, purl to last 3 stitches, K3

Bring the main color to the top and follow this pattern:

row 1:
Knit

row 2:
K3, purl to last 3 stitches, K3

repeat the 4 pattern rows, knitting 2 rows in each color until the scarf is as long as you like or you are about to run out of yarn.

Knit 4 rows and bind off.

Weave in all ends and block as desired.

Circles tube scarf

This is a fun scarf for children and adults alike. You can knit it by hand, but it is more fun if you use a child's knitting machine. You can take all one yarn, or use different yarns as I and my kids did, and stitch them together.

Materials:

1 skein worsted weight yarn (about 200 yards) or mixed yarns
tapestry needle
kids' plastic knitting machine, or size 8 double pointed needles.

If you are using a knitting machine, follow the instructions to create a tube of either as long as you'd like your scarf, or as long as the tube goes without getting too holey or messed up as knitting machines are wont to create :)

If you are using the knitting needles, cast on 30 stitches and join into a round. Knit all stitches until you are tired of that yarn, or when you feel like casting off.

Make enough tubes, or a long enough tube to make a 3-6 foot scarf.

If you are creating one long tube, use the tapestry needle to weave in ends, and sew the ends closed.

If you are creating different sized tubes like I did, weave in ends on each tube, and sew the ends closed. Then sew the tubes together end to end to create your scarf.

Remember, kids love to help with the knitting machine, so this is a good project for parents/aunts/uncles/grandparents/friends, etc and kids to work together!

Clapotis Kerchief

I love making decorative triangular scarves, and I loved the Clapotis pattern, so here is what I did to combine the two:

Materials:

2 skeins Debbie Bliss Pure Silk

Size 7 U.S. needles

17 stitch markers

tapestry needle

Directions:

Follow Knitty's Clapotis pattern until you have completed enough increase sections to have 18 sections on your needles.

On the next right side row, K to one stitch before first marker, K1tbl, PM, and complete the following after every marker until the last: drop the first stitch after the marker, let it drop a few rows, and pick up the stitch below as in the original pattern, knitting this stitch and the following through the back loop, K3, k1tbl, PM

At the last marker: PM, K1, k1tbl, K to end

For the next two rows continue the appropriate line in the Clapotis increase section (i.e. P1, K3, ktbl (K, Ktbl, K3, Ktbl, PM) , repeat () to last marker, K1tbl, K to end; K1, P to end)

For the next row, complete the row in K1, P1 rib.

Cast off in K1, P1 rib.

Finish any stitch dropping that wasn't completed during the pattern, weave in ends, and block as desired.

2 skeins Filatura di Crosa 127 Print
2 size 9 straight needles

Cast on 20 stitches.
K2, P2 to end
P2, K2 to end
Cast off and weave in ends.

Repeat these two rows until you have run out of yarn or your scarf is as long as you’d like. Mine ended at about 60”
