Red Scarf at Night

This is my version of a Chevron based scarf. I knit it up using different colors of Cascade 220 yarn, approximately 1 1/2 skeins in all. You can knit it with one main color and one contrasting color, or many contrasting colors! The sky's the limit!

Materials:

1 1/2 balls of Cascade 220 wool in one or more colors.
size 9 (U.S.) needles
tapestry needle

Stitches:

KFB - knit into the front and the back of the same stitch, increasing by one
K2tog - put the needle into the 2 next stitches, and knit them both at the same time together

Directions:

Cast on 24 stitches.

Knit 4 rows with the main color.

Attach the contrasting color and follow this pattern:

row 1:
K3, (K2tog x 3), (KFB x 3), (K2tog x 3), K3

row 2:
K3, purl to last 3 stitches, K3

Bring the main color to the top and follow this pattern:

row 1:
Knit

row 2:
K3, purl to last 3 stitches, K3

repeat the 4 pattern rows, knitting 2 rows in each color until the scarf is as long as you like or you are about to run out of yarn.

Knit 4 rows and bind off.

Weave in all ends and block as desired.
